The RODOFLEX® flexible couplings are torsionally rigid for compensating axial misalignments between rotating shafts and are free from elasticity and radial play
02/05/2024
The RODOFLEX program of metal bellows flexible couplings has been designed to connect slightly misaligned rotating shafts while maintaining rigid transmission without introducing elasticity or play. The flexible element consists of a metal bellows, with thickness and number of convolutions tailored to the required flexibility and torque. The coupling hubs lock the shaft ends effectively, ensuring a stable connection without the need for keyway-slot, although this remains an available option for specific assembly requirements and timing of the entire kinematic chain. The hubs are engineered to offer various shapes and locking systems
RODOFLEX metal bellows flexible couplings are engineered to adjust angular, parallel, and distance alignment errors that may occur in motor/screw drives, due to manufacturing tolerances, thermal expansions, or high torques and are used also for encoder installations. These couplings maintain significant torsional stiffness and are free from transmission elasticity, coupling play, and wear, due to their construction without articulated joint parts, thus requiring no maintenance. Their precision is essential in CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machinery for processing metals, wood, glass, stone, and in automated machines for packaging food, pharmaceuticals, or tobacco products, especially in rapid cycles with short travel. RODOFLEX couplings also offer benefits such as a compact construction and a mass significantly lower relative to their size and permissible torque, which is important in systems with high rotation speeds and frequent speed changes, thereby reducing the moment of inertia. Lastly, the couplings are available with hubs pre-drilled to standard diameters, both metric and inch, ready for installation without the need for further machining.
The RODOFLEX metallic bellows coupling program encompasses several series, starting from very small couplings with an outer diameter of just 12 mm, up to the largest couplings suitable for power drives with a maximum nominal torque of 340 Nm.
The RODOFLEX AMKN miniature series feature a particularly lightweight design, with hubs made of aluminum, firmly bonded to a copper-zinc alloy metal bellows. They are available in versions with radially clamping set screws on the shaft or also in a collar clamp version, which ensures a reliable coupling without leaving permanent marks on the connected shafts. These couplings are free from backlash and wear, easy to install, and always comply with the maximum allowable misalignment values, for torques ranging from 0.25 to 12 Nm and for shaft diameters from 1 to 24 mm.
The RODOFLEX power transmission couplings in the ATMK and ATMN series feature hubs welded around the entire circumference to the metal bellows, all in stainless steel. There are four options for the coupling hubs: collar clamp or two semi-collars depending on the size, tapered bushing, keyed hollow shaft coupling, and finally a flange version with a ring of threaded coupling holes. The all-stainless steel construction makes them resistant to corrosion, thus ideal for use in the presence of aggressive agents, in vacuum environments and/or cleanrooms; their temperature resistance up to 300°C allows for use even under the most severe conditions, such as in certain chemical industries. The range of RODOFLEX power transmission couplings offers solutions for nominal torque moments from 10 to 320 Nm, with a safety factor of 2.5 already accounted for, considering peaks resulting from acceleration and rotational reversals, for shaft diameters from 8 to 110 mm.
